91st National Championships in Płock: DYJAS and WĘGRZYN sisters defended their titles

In as many as 3 out of 5 competitions the national champions defended the titles won a year ago in Częstochowa. In the 91st Individual Polish Championships in Płock Jakub DYJAS and Katarzyna WĘGRZYN won again in singles as well as WĘGRZYN’S sisters – Katarzyna and Anna – in doubles.

Jakub DYJAS triumphed in singles for the 4th time and Katarzyna WĘGRZYN 2nd as well as in doubles with her twin Anna. Jakub DYJAS/Patryk LEWANDOWSKI and Tomasz KOTOWSKI/Zuzanna WIELGOS also won gold.

In Sunday’s men’s singles final Jakub DYJAS who won the championship titles in 2018 2020 and 2022 defeated Tomasz LEWANDOWSKI (UKS Dojlidy Białystok) who showed great shape for three days in Orlen Arena 4:1 (4:11 11:9 11:5 11:5 11:5).

Among women for the second time in a row Katarzyna WĘGRZYN became the national champion in singles. The table tennis player of the Wrocław KU AZS UE won the final against 17-year-old Wiktoria WRÓBEL (MRKS Gdańsk) 4:2 (11:3 11:8 6:11 7:11 11:5 11:7).

Bronze medals in the singles competition were won by Samuel KULCZYCKI and Maciej KUBIK (both Dekorglass Działowo) and Anna WĘGRZYN (KU AZS UE Wrocław) and Paulina KRZYSIEK (MUKS Start Nadarzyn).

Jakub DYJAS from Płock’s Orlen Arena eventually left with two gold medals. To the triumph in singles the highest ranked Pole in the world ranking added a victory in doubles together with his club colleague Patryk LEWANDOWSKI. Representatives of Warmia and Mazury in the final match defeated Tomasz LEWANDOWSKI (UKS Dojlidy Białystok) and Miłosz REDZIMSKI (Bogoria Grodzisk Mazowiecki) 3:0 (11:8 11:9 11:6). Patryk BIELECKI (ZKS Zielona Góra) and Patryk DZIUBA (Rzeszów University of Technology) and the defenders of the trophy from last year – Tomasz KOTOWSKI and Konrad KULPA (Energa KTS Toruń) finished the competition on the lowest step of the podium.

Katarzyna WĘGRZYN also followed in the footsteps of Jakub DYJAS and clinched titles in singles and doubles. Together with her twin sister – Anna WĘGRZYN they beat Roksana ZAŁOMSKA (KU AZS AJD Częstochowa) and Katarzyna GALUS (Rzeszów University of Technology) Zuzanna WIELGOS (Rzeszów University of Technology) and Natalia BOGDANOWICZ (Warmia Lidzbark Warmiński) and Wiktoria WRÓBEL (MRKS Gdańsk) and Ilona SZTWIERTNIA (SKTS Sochaczew).

Tomasz KOTOWSKI (Energa KTS Toruń) and Zuzanna WIELGOS (Rzeszów University of Technology) finished on the top step of the podium defeating Konrad KULPA (Eenrga KTS Toruń) and Natalia BOGDANOWICZ (Warmia Lidzbark Warmiński) in the final of the Mixed Doubles. Szymon MALICKI (KS AZS AWFiS Gdańsk) and Katarzyna ŚLIFIRCZYK (MUKS Start Nadarzyn) as well as Maciej KUBIK (Dekorglass Działdowo) and Ilona SZTWIERTNIA (SKTS Sochaczew) left Płock with bronze medals.
