Men's ECL draw: titleholder Borussia to start in Prague

22/06/2010 - The draw for European Champions League was conducted today in Luxembourg. Opening day is coming in first days of September (3rd -6th ) with two clashes between German and Russian clubs, Greanzau – Orenburg, Fulda –UMMC, when title holder Borussia Dusseldorf starts from Czech Republic, playing against EL NINO Praha.

We already announced that new season brings two clubs less than previous one (14 instead 16) due to global financial crisis. Format will be same. The playing system will be same, with two groups of four teams and two of three.

Having in mind that Borussia lifted the trophy in last two seasons, we could say that they will be again favorite. But, in last few months many things were changed and some teams who had a nice chance last season now could be happy if they reach quarter-final, and on the other side we have some new big names with big expectations. Roskilde and Charleroi is not such strong as they was last year, but UMMC (last season quarterfinalist) and other Russian team, Orenburg (ETTU Cup winner) are preparing to finish Borussia`s era.

Nice thing for ECL, of course, is that Vladimir SAMSONOV will again with us. But, that is bad news for Orenburg`s opponents…
