Italy vs. China on November in Milan, in name of tolerance

Yang Min16/07/2006 - Italy vs. Cina, next November 5-6, 2007, in Milan’s Palalido, in name of friendships and pacific cohabitation. Once more table tennis becomes a way to aggregate people making them more tolerant. The initiative started from Fitet (TT Italian Association) in full cooperation with the Mayor of Milan, Letizia MORATTI. “Sport has always been a place of friendship – Fitet President Franco SCIANNIMANICO explained – as well as for table tennis is. Many Chinese players live and play in Europe, so after the clash in Milan’s Chinatown we felt important to confirm this sentiment of solidarity through a table tennis event”.
Last April, Italian police broke up a violent protest in Milan’s Chinatown by scores of Chinese immigrants. About 10 police officers were injured and a similar number of Chinese people received hospital treatment. The trouble began when a Chinese woman was fined for illegally transporting goods in a private vehicle. More than 100 Chinese shopkeepers and members of their families, many waving the national flag, massed in the street claiming racial discrimination
