25/03/2007 – Belgrade Arena was really crowded in the 2007 European Championships opening day: around 3000 spectators attended the first competitions supporting the National teams with a lot of passion. „Unfortunately Serbian teams were defeated, we’are really upset - Organizing Committee general manager Boris Damjanovic said – tomorrow maybe seven thousand, or ten thousand spectators could have attend the matches. We really wasted an unbelievable opportunity“. A pleasant and sunny day pushed many TT supporters to enjoy the game and to admire also the best European players like Timo Boll and Vladimir Samsonov, but always the hosting national team’s results influence their participation. Two years ago in Aarhus Danish Association had an impressive success thanks to the Men’s National team unpredictable win, as well as for the Italian Women team in Courmayeur 2003 was. The Serbians were not so lucky even though the event seemed to have a positive start-up anyway. 
The ETTU (European Table Tennis Union) is the only authority recognised by the ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) for governing and developing the table tennis sport in Europe. According to the latest information, more than 4 million people are playing competition table tennis in the territory controlled by the ETTU. With its 56 Member Associations, the ETTU is the largest of the 6 Continental Table Tennis Federations recognised by the ITTF.
