Good start for Russian Igor RUBTSOV at Qatar Open 

Rubtsov17/02/2009 - The qualification rounds at Qatar Open started today. In Men’s singles Russian Igor RUBTSOV played quarterfinal last week in Kuwait, and in Qatar he reached the main draw once again through the qualification.

He beat Khaled AL HARBI (KSA) in straight sets, but had to play very hard seven sets against Croat Borna KOVAC.

Another Russian booked his place in Main draw – Maksim SHMYRYEV. Maksim overcame Kumar JUBIN (IND) and Mikkel HINDERSSON (DEN), both in five sets.

Zoltan FEJER KONNERTH of Germany also finished the day with two wins: over Mohamed EL-BEIALI (EGY) and Genadiy ZAKLADNIY (UKR).

The both rivals had one win each in the group. The list of success for Germans continued with two wins for Lars HIELSCHER and Patrick BAUM. The encounter Marcos FREITAS of Portugal vs Daniel KOSIBA of Hungary finished in favor of Marcos who will certainly joined Andrej GACINA of Croatia in the round of best of 64.

European players had a good start in the qualifications of the woman’s event too. Wenling TAN MONFARDINI of Italy overcame GUAN Meng Yuan of Hong Kong in five sets. In the second round tomorrow she will play against Mouma DAS of India.

Another Italian player joined her at the list of today’s winners: Nikoleta STAFANOVA beat another Hong Kong’s representative LEE Ho Ching in straight sets.

The Hong Kong vs Europe duels continued with Elke SCHALL’s match against NG Wing Nam. German’s SCHALL won in straight sets.

Sara RAMIREZ of Spain succeeded against Madhurika PATKAR of India – 4:1, whilst Laura NEGRISOLI of Italy beat India’s Ankita DAS. In same group Petra LOVAS also beat DAS, so for the leading place in group tomorrow will play NEGRISOLI vs DAS.
