This competition was organized under the name "European Fair Cities Cup" from 1955 to 1984, when the name changed to "ETTU Nancy Evans Cup", from 1984 to 2005. In 2005 the name of competion changed to ETTU Cup, the winner being awarded the "Nancy Evans Cup"
The ETTU (European Table Tennis Union) is the only authority recognised by the ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) for governing and developing the table tennis sport in Europe. According to the latest information, more than 4 million people are playing competition table tennis in the territory controlled by the ETTU. With its 56 Member Associations, the ETTU is the largest of the 6 Continental Table Tennis Federations recognised by the ITTF.
