At the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in the Men’s Team event Singapore, India, England and Nigeria made successful starts to their campaigns.

It was a fine start for England, the second seeds, in opposition to Jamaica. Paul DRIKNHALL beat Simon TOMLINSON (11-7, 11-8, 11-4) before Liam PITCHFORD overcame Kane WATSON (11-8, 11-7, 11-7).

Success for Liam PITCHFORD paved the way for Andrew BAGGALEY to enter the arena. He partnered Paul DRINKHALL to success over Christopher MARSH and Simon TOMLINSON (11-5, 11-4, 11-3). Later England beat Trinidad and Tobago 3:0.

In Pool C N. Ireland bet Guyana and lost against India. Scotland prevailed against Uganda in Pool E, whilst Wales beat Papua N. Guinea in Pool G.

The top two rated outfits in the Women’s Team event both made successful starts in their medal quest on the morning of the first day of competition in the Scottish city. Three matches to nil verdicts were the order of the day as Singapore, the no.1 seeds and defending champions, overcame Sri Lanka and Australia, the second seeds, accounted for Guyana.

Wales beat Mauritius 3:0 and suffered in the duel against New Zealand. England beat Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago.
