Nandor ECSEKI clinched the title in Wladyslawowo

Hungary’s Nandor ECSEKI won the Junior Boys’ Singles event at the 2014 Polish Junior and Cadet Open in Wladyslawowo. The no.7 seed, at the final hurdle he overcame Japan’s Yuto KIZUKURI, the no.12 seed (11-6, 12-10, 12-10, 7-11, 11-9), after progressing to the final without at any stage having to experience the drama of a deciding seventh game.

In the third round ECSEKI accounted for Portugal’s Jorge COSTA, the no.19 seed, before overcoming the Czech Republic’s David REITSPIES, the no.1 seed, in the quarter-finals (12-14, 11-7, 11-4, 12-10, 11-8) and Japan’s Masato KAKITSUKA, the no.8 seed in the penultimate round (11-7, 11-9, 9-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7).

The winner in the Slovak Republic one week earlier, India’s Ayhika MUKHERJEE collected her second consecutive ITTF Junior Circuit Girls’ Singles title of the year. Occupying the tenth seeded position in the draw; the 16 year old emerged as the surprise winner in an event that was littered with upsets. At the final hurdle, Ayhika MUKHERJEE accounted for Germany’s Alena LEMMER, the no.6 seed (10-12, 12-10, 11-4, 6-11, 11-9, 16-14), having earlier in the day displayed fine form. She overcame Israel’s Nicole TROSMAN, the no.9 seed (11-8, 11-4, 11-8, 11-5) in the third round, before ousting Chinese Taipei’s LIN Po-Hsuan, the no.15 seed in the quarter-finals (11-9, 11-8, 11-6, 12-10) and Pauline CHASSELIN of France, the no.16 seed, in the penultimate round (11-7, 22-24, 11-6, 11-9, 11-6).
