Germany overcame Hungary. Chantal MANTZ, Nina MITTELHAM and Alena LEMMER showed no mercy against Csilla NAGYPAL, Leila IMRE and Lili TAKACS.

In the lower half of the draw Russia also was in no mood for charity. Ekaterina GUSEVA, Maria MALANINA and Ekaterina CHERNYAVSKAYA overcame Portugal’s Rita FINS, Marta SANTOS and Patricia MACIEL. They dominated matters from start to finish.

Russia will play against Croatia. In duel against Serbia, Lea RAKOVEC was the backbone of team’s success. She overcame Tamara AGOSTON and Ivana VEJNOVIC. Dorina SREBRNJAK and Klara CAKOL were stretched to full distance. SREBRNJAK lost against VEJNOVIC.
