Filip ZELJKO upsets the favorite in China

At the Wisdom 2014 World Junior Championships in the Chinese city of Shanghai, total of 21 boys and girls from Europe reached the second round of the Singles Event. In the round of 32 will play 11 boys and 10 girls from Old Continent.

Anton KALBERG of Sweden and Filip ZELJKO of Croatia was forced to go full distance in their first round’s duels. KALLBERG beat Stanislav KUCERA of Czech Republic and ZELJKO succeeded against Asuka SAKAI of Japan. Whilst the result of the duel between Swede and Czech was expected, ZELJKO’s success came as a surprise according to the seeding. Croat is listed at the position no. 25, whilst SAKAI is no. 6.

Croatia is the only nation with two representatives in second round. Tomislav PUCAR joined ZELJKO after success against PARK Ganghyeon of Korea.

Alexandre CASSIN of France, Andreas DILLING of Denmark, Aliaksandr KHANIN of Belarus,QIU Dang of Germany, Patryk ZATOWKA of Poland, Adam SZUDI of Hungary, Cristian PLETEA of Romania and Kirill GERASSIMENKO of Kazakhstan , all reached next round.

In Junior Girls Singles Natalia BAJOR of Poland and Laura PFEFER of France had to go all seven games. Diana LUPU of Romania forced BAJOR to go all seven games, with last game concluded 13:11. LIN Chia Hsuan put PFEFER on severe test. She will not be alone in the second round. Marie MIGOT and Audrey ZARIF from French team also booked the place in the next round. Ekaterina GUSEVA and Maria MALANINA of Russia is also still in the game alongside Bernadett BALINT and Adina DIAONU of Romania, Nina MITTELHAM of Germany, Lea RAKOVAC of Croatia.
