Fights in Bratislava for national titles and place for Tokyo

From Friday until Sunday National Table Tennis Centre in Bratislava will host 2014 Slovak Table Tennis Championships in singles events. 73 men and 34 ladies will play at 12 Butterfly tables.

The first day players will compete in qualifying groups from which 16 players will qualify to the next stage, both men and ladies. On Sunday they will be joined by top 16 men and 8 ladies seeded according to their national ranking. Winners will be presented on Sunday at noon time.

“We expect top quality matches especially in men’s singles category where all favorites will attend, including two naturalized Chinese players WANG Yang and BAI He. Slovak number one is Ľubomír PIŠTEJ. The tournament results can influence the final cut to the Slovak national team for the World Championships in Tokyo in April. In ladies’ event several experienced players have been excused, including Eva ÓDOROVA. However, after her great effort at the Hungarian Open in Szombathely, she promised to participate to the World Team Championships in Japan. Top favorite is Barbora BALÁŽOVÁ, she has been Slovak number one for several years,” stated STTA President Zdenko KRIŽ Peter ŠEREDA and Barbora BALÁŽOVÁ will try to defend their titles in Singles Events, in doubles Ľubomír PIŠTEJ and Peter ŠEREDA and Barbora BALÁŽOVÁ and Soňa HUDECOVÁ and in mixed doubles Ľubomír PIŠTEJ and Barbora BALÁŽOVÁ.
