Polish champion Bogoria Grodzisk Mazowiecki beat French GV Hennebont 3:0 in the first Saturday’s match of Men`s European Champions League Round 3. Both clubs continue with 1-2 score, keeping the chance for the quarter-final spot.
OH Sang Eun defeated CHO Eon Rae in straight games of the opening encounter. Host, former world`s Top 10 player, had a clear distance in each set.
One of decisive moments was seen in second match when Daniel GORAK overcame French talent Quentin ROBINOT in five games. Young guest managed to level on 2:2 despite being two sets down, but host made crucial run in late fifth set, coming from 5:6 to 9:6. ROBINOT saved one set ball on 10:8.
Pawel FERTIKOWSKI suffered two defeats in first two rounds, playing as team`s no. 3, but tonight showed his best game this season. He overcame confidently Dimitrij PROKOPCOV in straight games.
Other Group D game was held in Wels where the winner of German Bundesliga defeated Austrian champion: Walter Wels – Borussia 1:3. Timo BOLL brought two points for the guests, beating in straight games both, Dominique PLATTNER and Lehel DEMETER. Third point for Borussia came from Greek Panagiotis GIONIS who was better than DEMETTER, playing five games in opening clash.
It was the third victory in the row for the ten times European champion. Borussia shows that will again play one of the leading roles in MECL, after two disappointing seasons. Timo BOLL now has 4-0 score (12-1 in sets).
After first three rounds German champion is alone on the top of Group D. Other three clubs, Hennebont, Bogoria and Walter Wels, are continuing competition with 1-2 score each.
