Greece gave Croatia hard time in Ostrava

Titleholders in Junior Girls Team’s Event, Romania, successfully started their campaign at the 56th European Youth Championships in Ostrava. In Group A they beat Sweden in straight matches. In the same Group Serbia struggled to justify their rankings against Netherlands. Kim VERMAAS upset Ana Zofija FENJVESI it the opening match, but eventually, favorites prevailed. In Group B Germany’s Nina MITTELHAM, Theresa KRAFT and Chantal MANTZ showed great form. They inflicted the pain in the host nation supporters in the opening round.

“I was happy that I beat Karolina MYNAROVA here. In two previous occasions she overcame me. Last time it was very recently at the French Open,” explained Nina. Croatia went through great difficulties in duel against Greece. After Mateja JEGER and Lea RAKOVEC established the lead, Filia EMIRI brought back Greece back in game. Aikaterini TOILOU leveled the score, but JEGER saved Croatia in the decisive duel. Leaders in Group C, France beat Turkey and Belarus overcame Hungary, so there were no surprises in that Group. Both winning teams recorded straight matches victories. It was the same situation in Group D. Russia beat Slovakia 3:1, whilst Poland prevailed against Italy 3:0.
