Big guns start tomorrow in Schwechat

The qualification stage of the LIEBHERR European Championships is over with only few surprises in opening part of the Singles Event.

In top three Groups, Pavel SIRUCEK of Czech Republic, Kristian KARLSSON of Sweden and Daniel HABESOHN of Austria all concluded three days of battles successfully. Poland’s players were in charge for upsets. Konard KULPA, seeded only at the position number three in his group overcame all adversaries. Top seeded Grigory VLASOV of Russia suffered in four games and Bulgaria’s Stanislav GOLOVANOV lost in full distance match against KULPA.

Mihai BOBOCICA of Italy, Simon GAUZY of France, Adam PATTANTYUS of Hungary and WANG Zeng Yi of Poland all justified their rankings, whilst Pawel FERTIKOWSKI of Poland joined them from lower seeded position. Pawel overcame LI Ahmet of Turkey to secure top position in Group 9.

Enzo ANGLES of France also played in good form. He overcame Oleksandr DIDUKH of Ukraine to secure passage to the first round of the main draw.

In Women’s Singles Event qualifications Alexandra PRIVALOVA of Belarus and Dana CECHOVA of Czech Republic both justified their rankings, but both were undere severe pressure. Naomi OWEN of Wales stretched PRIVALOVA to full distance, whilst young Tessy GONDERINGER also made CECHOVA play all five games. Anamarija ERDELJI was another favorite forced to play all five games against Lisa RIDOLFI of Italy in the match for the passage to main draw. Lisa was close, but Debora VIVARELLI made it. Debora beat Gabriela FEHER of Serbia to secure her way to the Round of 64.
