05/03/2012 – The Russian table tennis Championships-2012 has finished on 4th of March in Saint-Petersburg. The main surprise was an absence of the Russian national team leader Alexey SMIRNOV. Kirill SKACHKOV, Alexander SHIBAEV, Igor RUBTSOV, Fedor KUZMIN, Alexey LIVENTSOV and the winner of last Russian championships in singles Vyacheslav BUROV have become key favourites of the championships.

But none of them managed to go through a tournament without defeats. The strongest Russian table tennis player of 2012 is Grigory VLASOV. He beats Igor RUBTSOV 4:2, Fedor KUZMIN 4:2, then Vyacheslav BUROV 4:3 (in semifinals) and finally Kirill SkAchkov 4:1 in golden match. After the last point VLASOV jumps on the table and tears his t-shirt apart in the style of ZHAN Jike. That is the way Russia’s got a new champion. Moreover, Grigory VLASOV is going to join the Russian national team in forthcoming world team championships in Dortmund.

The best Russian female player of 2012 is Anna TIKHOMIROVA. In the crucial duel of the championship she hadn’t had many problems with her rival, Polina MIKHAILOVA – 4:0. The Bronze has gone to Yana NOSKOVA and Svetlana GANINA.
In doubles the winners are: Aleksey LIVENTSOV and Mikhail PAYKOV, the bronze winners of European championships in pairs (Gdansk, Poland) and Yana NOSKOVA and Oksana FADEEVA. In mixed doubles the 1st place has gone to Denis GAVRILOV and Maria BYKOVA.

In the Russian team championships men’s and women’s teams from Moscow have won the title.
