Cadet Girls Event European Youth Top 10

The winner of the Cadet Girls Singles Event at the European Youth Top 10 in Worcester is Sophia KLEE of Germany. On her way to the highest step at the medal rostrum in England she lost two encounters against top seeded Elena ZAHARIA and no. two seed Jamila LAURENTI of Italy. Ozge YILMAZ of Turkey is second followed by Isa Cok of France, both with 6/3 ratio.

It proved that her win against YILMAZ of Turkey in seven games thriller at the beginning of the tournament was crucial at the end.

“I beat Ozge YILMAZ in first round and that was very important moment for my win eventually, “explained KLEE. “At the Top 10, all the best players are present. You do not have the space for many mistakes or easy matches. Every adversary is strong and every ball counts. You can not afford to lose your focus for a minute.”

Like earlier this summer, Elena ZAHARIA proved to strong for Sophia. In Portugal at the European Championships Romania’s player beat KLEE in third round of the singles event.

“I am almost always better then ZAHARIA at the trainings. We played so many matches in ETTU camps and various trainings, but at the tournaments I am struggling to beat her. Maybe I am angry every time. I have to calm down a little. She is very good player, no doubt, but I am so unhappy with my mistakes,” said Sophia.

Sophia is playing for two clubs in Bundesliga and Regional liga, TUS Bad Driburg and SC Niestetal.

“My older brother and sister played table tennis, and from age of two I was picking balls. I started to play at age of four. I could not imagine any other sport. I did not see any other sport but table tennis when I was little.”

KLEE is gold medal winner in Doubles at the European Youth Championships, two times cadet and one time junior national champion in Germany; she was second at the Swedish open.
