Anticipation of a special Hyper – Event

LIEBHERR 2017 ITTF European Teams Championships

A further step prior to the LIEBHERR 2017 ITTF European Teams Championships in Luxembourg- Kirchberg was finalised in the „Coque“ on March 2nd during a press conference. The Luxembourg Federation and the European Union signed the contract and confirmed all previous agreements in writing. Furthermore FLTT has presented the DTEM 2017 a.s.b.l.,  a non-profit making association specially set up for the event.

FLTT President André HARTMANN, and General Secretary Romain SAHR, as well as Camille GONDERINGER and Jean-Marie LINSTER featuring for the DTEM Board of Coordination, attended the event, while ETTU was represented by President Ronald KRAMER and Deputy General Secretary Pierre KASS. Beside the numerous representatives of both national and international media, sponsors and partners received information about preparatory progress of the biggest sport event in the Greater Region this year. In his introductory speech André HARTMANN thanked the attendance for their interest and presence.

" For the FLTT and the Organizing Committee of ETTC 2017 it is a great pleasure and honour on one hand and on the other hand a big challenge for a small federation organizing the biggest and most prestigious competition in Europe. We are very confident that Luxembourg will be a perfect host and that we can offer the best conditions to everyone. We managed to come to an agreement with ETTU in a spirit of a real partnership. We would like to take the opportunity to thank the Luxembourg Government, the City of Luxembourg, the National Olympic Committee, the National Sports and Culture Centre d’Coque for their trust and support to make this event a reality. For me personally, having around 200 registered full time or part time volunteers is an absolutely positive signal that we will have a successful event in coming September. Luxembourg is ready. The promotion plan will run from now on. The World Table Tennis Day on the 6th April will be one highlight with more table tennis at the School Sport Day in Luxembourg," said FLTT President André HARTMANN.

ETTU President Ronald KRAMER said: "ETTU is very pleased to be able to organise the LIEBHERR 2017 ITTF European Championships in the country where we have our headquarters and in the year of our 60th anniversary. We are grateful to the authorities of Luxembourg for their continued support. And Luxembourg may be seen as a relatively small country, but the organisational skills of the Luxembourg Table Tennis Federation have proven to be great. We are looking forward to very well prepared European Championships in September."

Even though the contract was signed merely on March 2nd, the audience realised swiftly that thorough work had been accomplished in the past six months. Taking turns, the speakers mentioned the tremendous progress of the past months and made this concrete in various thematic areas.

The event, scheduled from 13th to 17th September in the "Coque“, will take place in the "Arena" on 16 tables, three of which are "show-courts“, whereof one is the "TV-court“ allocated to live-transmission. Several TV channels ( among others Eurosport ) will broadcast the competition for 3 days, while the Event will be shown on Internet in live-stream for 5 full days.

Sponsors and Partners were also introduced: The Ministry of Sports, the Department of Tourism of the Ministry of the Economy, the Foreign Office (for the “nation-branding“), the City of Luxembourg, the Luxembourg Olympic Committee, The National Sports and Cultural Centre "d'Coque“, the Title Sponsor LIEBHERR, the equipment partners Donic, Nittaku and Gerflor, as well as event sponsors such as BDO, Loterie Nationale, Banque Raiffeisen, Emile Weber Travels, Charles Kieffer Group and Alvisse. Moreover the contract with OPTIN as the organising partner for marketing and web-service was signed.

Likewise, the logo for the European Championships was presented: designed by Edmond SCHINTGEN, former table tennis player and retired teacher of visual art, it was finalised by OPTIN. Further topics were the presentation of the "Arena“, as it will appear between September13th and 17th, the practice facilities, the sale of entry tickets, the hiring of 200 volunteers so far, as well as other actions closely linked with the ETTC 2017.

The new Internet homepage, under the address www.ettc2017.lu, was also presented, as well as the imminent launching of a new facebook page.
