European Youth Championships Junior Boys Teams Event

In the final before the final, Romania booked their place in quarters. They accounted for Russia in the Junior Boys Teams Event at the European Youth Championships in Zagreb.

Romania started their journey in Croatia from the lower Division, but Cristian PLETEA, RARES Sipos and Alex MANOLE showed no mercy so far. No. two seeds, team of Russia, thanks to Denis IVONIN, managed only to win one point.

“ This was incredible match. One of the best in my life, for sure. We have very strong team and fantastic team spirit. We came from second division and we made it step by step. The team is playing better and better as the tournament progressed. Tomorrow we will play against Spain and that is very good chance to reach medal position” said PLETEA.

Spain prevailed against Greece.

At the top of the seeding, France controlled the situation without any stress. Alexandre CASSIN, Joe SEYFRIED and Irvin BERTRAND overcame Denmark’s Anders LIND, Andreas DILLING and Rasmus MIKKELSEN. This is BERTRAND’s first junior year, but he has enough confidence.

“First game was good, but then I started to play even better. We started from position no. 1, we are defending champions and everyone expects our good performance here,” said BERTRAND.

Another favorite – Slovenia is out for the run for medal. Italy prevailed today.

“I am so happy because I made a big sacrifice and it paid off. I left my home in search for better training and I played very well,” said Matteo MUTTI after his win over no. one European player Darko JORGIC.

They will meet Germany.

“I expect the match against Germany will be very difficult. They are so focused, they don't make easy mistakes and they have good mentality for sport and generally. We need to make fantastic match. We will try to do the best,” said coach Lorenzo NANNONI.

Czech Republic overcame Hungary.
