Romania, the country with immense traditions in the sport of table tennis, especially women table tennis, waited for long for the medal in the singles event at the European Championships. Legendary Olympian, now Minister, SZABO, reminded all about it.
“We waited for 12 years after Otilia BADESCU won her last medal in singles at the European Championships. How much this victory, SAMARA achieved, was great I can best describe by numerous phone calls I received only seconds after the end of the match. Everybody was delighted. She made us all proud. Also, I have to than our Government for the great support for our sport and activities,” said SZABO.
SAMARA was also delighted.
“It is great honor for me. I am so nervous and so happy…I just can not find the words,” said SAMARA.
RTTF President Cristinel ROMANESCU thanked for great support from the Government.
“We want to stay on this track. Those results justified our course. We invested a lot in our youth; in our development program and it proved as the only way to success. Eliza showed the strength of our school of table tennis. We have excellent coaches and experts as well as endless will to support our players,” said ROMANESCU.
