Europe Youth Top-10 | 18 Oct 2015

Andreea DRAGOMAN defended the crown

“Now it was much harder”

Romania justified its dominance in the Cadets Category at the 2015 ROMSTAL European Top 10 in Buzau. Andreea DRAGOMAN, 15-years old, followed the footsteps of her compatriot Christian PLETEA, on her way to the top of the elite youth tournament. Like the year earlier, DRAGOMAN clinched the title in Cadet Girls Singles Event.  Anastasia KOLISH of Russia is second, whilst Lucie GAUTHIER of France is third.

At the European Youth Championships in Bratislava earlier this year, she won the bronze medal in singles, she also has gold in Team Event won two years ago. Her European saldo is one gold and four bronze so far.

“I had a very good start of the season at the Czech Open. I won silver in singles and latter I won gold in French Open in junior Category. I was second in Poland and in Croatia. In Croatia I won the medals in both, junior and cadet category, before I clinched gold in Serbia,” explained DRAGOMAN.

Comparing the experience from winning the title last year, Andreea admitted:

“It was much harder this time. Last year in France I was more relaxed. The expectations were not that high. Now, I was favorite. It was great pressure, especially after TAYLAKOVA withdrew. I had to win this tournament,” said DRAGOMAN.

Before the start, Andreea had very bad experience against Christina KALLBERG of Sweden.

“She beat me 3:0 in France and I was afraid of our encounter here. “

However Andreea was well prepared. She overcame Swede without great difficulties.

“The most difficult match was against Anastasia KOLISH of Russia. I was 3:0 in the lead, she recovered; narrowed the margin to 3:2. Eventually I won.”

With the rest of the youth Romanian team DRAGOMAN spent a week in China in the training camp before the tournament in Buzau.

“We were close to the Beijing. It was fantastic experience for me since it was first time that I went there.”

Next stop is World Cadet Challenge in Egypt and World Championships.

“I do not have high golas. I just want to play as best as I can.”
