France secured another final at the Cadets Category
In the final of the Cadet Boys Teams Event at the European Youth Championships, tomorrow in Bratislava Italy will meet France. Italy reached the ultimate stage after victory over top seeded Romania. France overcame Moldova to join them.
Matteo MUTTI and Carlo ROSSI, both beat Rares SIPOS, whilst Cristian PLETEA won his singles. In the doubles Italian pairings were better.
“This is great result for Italy. Not only for MUTTI or ROSSI or PIANCETINI, but for our Federation and all people involved in our program in past few years. This is the result of three years hard work and precise planning; the result of great spirit that we built. I have to thank out technical staff, coaches and Federation for all the support in past period,” said coach Valentino PIACENTINI.
France needed four matches to overcame Moldova. Lilian BARDET, Irvin BERTRAND, Leo DE NODREST were challenged, but CHIRITA and URSU managed to score only in doubles. Irvin beat both Moldova’s players in singles.
“In this match, the most important thing was the courage that we showed. I think we had a bigger heart. We won all important points,” said Irvin.
Two full distance thrillers marked the quarterfinal stage. Top seeded Romania faced spirited Russia’s side, whilst Italy beat Germany on their way to the medal rostrum.
Once again, Cristian PLETEA and Rares SIPOS took the full burden on their shoulders. At the opening game, Cristian PLETEA suffered by the hands of Artem DVOYNIKOV, whilst in doubles, Artem teamed up with Lev KATSMAN to put Romania on even greater pressure. However SIPOS, after he survived very close match against SIDORENKO, showed no mercy against DVOYNIKOV in decisive match.
Germany fought hard against Italy, even had 2:1, but Matteo MUTTI and Carlo ROSSI recovered to reach the medal.
Moldova beat Sweden 3:1, whilst France overcame Poland in straight matches.
