20 - not a good number for favorites

Maxim CHAPLYGIN and Hanna PATSEYEVA faced early exit

Main favorites in the Junior Boy’s Singles Event, at the European Youth Championships in Bratislava are free until the second round matches scheduled for tomorrow. For the few rest, opening round already produced big upsets.

Creator of one of big surprises in the round one was Israel’s Aviv BEN ARI. BEN ARI is currently placed at the position no. 115 in Europe, but it did not stop him to beat Europe’s no. 20 Maxim CHAPLYGIN of Russia – 4:1 (-8, 9, 7, 7, 8).

“It was my first match against defender at the Championships, so it was very difficult for me. We never played against each other before, but I knew what to do. I played to the middle, set a good tactics and most important, I managed to keep with it,” explained BEN ARI, whose previous best result was the third round of the cadet’s singles at the European Championships.

Europe’s no. 32 is also out of the singes. Aleksandr LUSIN of Estonia suffered by the hands of Antonio AMATO of Italy (ranked at position no. 77) – 4:2 (10, -9, -12, 12, 8, 6).

In Junior Girls Singles Event Europe’s no. 20 is also out. Hanna PATSEYEVA of Belarus suffered by the hands of Klara CAKOL of Croatia – 4:2 (4, 3, -9, -9, 5, 7). CAKOL is currently ranked at the position no. 50.

“Two opening games, went easy, but Hanna recovered to level. Then the game was very close. At the Belarus bench was veronica PAVLOVICH, who played in Croatia few years, so we knew each other well. Both, we were forced to change a tactics few times; it ended with four different, before CAKOL won,” said coach Darko ARAPOVIC.

Leila IMRE (Europe’s no. 23) of Hungary was stretched to full distance in the match against Lizaveta TSIKHANAVA of Belarus (no. 150) – 4:3 (2, -8, 12, -2, 11, -14, 7). Nora ESCARTIN of Spain also had to go through agonizing seventh game against Celine REUST of Switzerland 4:3 (8, -9, -9, 7, -9, 10, 11).

In Cadet Boys Singles Event, the good result in Team’s took its toll. Vladislav URSU of Moldavia won bronze three days ago, but in Singes 33rd player in Europe lost against no. 64 Maksim GREBNEV of Russia.
