2015 World Junior Championships

In the first round of the Girls’ Singles event at the 2015 World Junior Championships, leading names successfully continued their journey in La Roche-sur-Yon, France, but not without the tense moments.

Romania’s Andreea DRAGOMAN, the no.13 seed, had to withstand a brave recovery from Daria TRIGOLOS of Belarus; whilst Poland’s Natalia BAJOR had to perform a fight-back of note to reserve her place in the second round. DRAGOMAN emerged successful in six games (11-7, 11-9, 11-7, 3-11, 10-12, 11-9), as did Natalia BAJOR; after losing the first two games against the host nation’s Romane LE SCOUR, she won the next four to secure victory (6-11, 12-14, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8, 12-10).Natalia BAJOR recently won the Junior Girls’ Singles event at the Europe Top Ten tournament in Buzau, Romania.

Wins as anticipated but there was one surprise in the early contests; by the very narrowest of margins, Germany’s Luisa SAEGER accounted for Romania’s Andreea CLAPA (6-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-6, 6-11, 11-7, 11-9). Currently on the Under 18 Girls’ World Ranking, Andreea Clapa is at no.54, Luisa Saeger at no.58.

In Boy’s Event Sweden’s Anton KÄLLBERG, the no.2 seed, beat Nikita YARUSHIN from Russia (6-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-6, 12-10), China’s LIU Dingshuo, the no.3 seed, accounted for Italy’s Jordy PICCOLIN (12-10, 11-2, 11-2, 11-4); whilst the host’s Can AKKUZU, the no.7 seed, ended the hopes of Denmark’s Andreas DILLING (11-5, 11-4, 11-8, 11-5).
