ECLW Round 6: UCAM Cartagena makes historic success

Alongside Spanish club, Linz AG Froschberg, Saint-Quentin and SVNO STROCK secured their places for the next stage

 

Berlin, Saint-Quentin, UCAM Cartagena, SVNO STROCK, Metz, Fenerbahce, Zamek and Linz will play in the 2015/16 ECLW quarter-finals. The last four matches of group stage were held tonight: Bursa Buyuksehir – Saint-Quentin 2:3, Szekszard AC – UCAM Cartagena 2:3, Metz TT – Postas Egyesulet 3:1 and Linz AG Froschberg – Lille Metropole 3:2.

 

The last round brought three very intense and thrilling matches, all three finished after full five games. UCAM Cartagena managed to beat Szekszard in Hungary, making its historic success. It was team work of Spanish side, as WANG Zhipei, Ruta PASKAUSKIENE and Iulia NECULA took one point each. Cartagena goes into next stage as no. 1 of Group B, while the 2012 runner-up SVNO STROCK progressed from the second spot.

 

Double ECLW champion Linz AG Froschberg and Lille Metropole had fought for the second spot in the Group D in which Zamek finished on the top after five rounds. LIU Jia & Co. were stretched to full five encounters, but managed to beat strong French side, led by YANG Xiaoxin. Three winning points took Sofia POLCANOVA, Camelia POSTOACA and LIU Jia who defeated Bernadette SZOCS in the decisive, fifth showdown.

 

In the Group C everything was decided after Round 5. Tonight Metz confirmed top spot, beating Postas 3:1.

 

Saint-Quentin joined the top seed Berlin in the Group A, as they beat away Bursa 3:2. Ran LI KATK contributed with two points and Daniela DODEAN-MONTEIRO added one more to secure quarter-finals for their side. French team beat Turkish club with the same result in the Round 3.
