Reigning ECLW champion is going to play against actual ETTU Cup winner, other pairs are: Berlin – STROCK, Linz – Metz and Cartagena – Saint-Quentin
The ECLW quarter-finals draw held today in Luxembourg confronts two well known rivalries, Fenerbahce Sport Club and Zamek Tarnobrzeg, as well as TTC Berlin Eastside – SVNO STROCK, Linz AG Froschberg – Metz TT and UCAM Cartagena – TT Saint-Quentin. The first matches are coming on January 15-19th, while the returning legs will be held seven days later.
Reigning ECLW champion Fenerbahce and actual ETTU Cup winner Zamek met in the 2012/13 ETTU Cup final as Turkish champion won. Istanbul side continued its supremacy in the group stage of ECLW two seasons ago, but Polish club showed in the first stage of the ongoing season why must be considered as one of favorites for the crown.
Top seed and two times ECLW winner Berlin will play against the 2012 runner-up SVNO STROCK. Actually, it will be a reprise of that final, when German team won in the one of the closest ECLW finals ever, decided by point-ratio. One more thrilling clash was seen a year ago, as Berlin overcame Austrian side 3:2 in the decisive Round 6, to secure quarter-final. Georgina POTA in both occasions was a key player.
Double ECLW champion Linz (2009 and 2013) will fight against the 2014/15 ETTU Cup finalist Metz who had an impressive run in the group stage. LIU Jia & Co. booked their place among the best eight clubs in the last round, while French champion had a perfect 4:0 score, beating twice defending ECLW champion Fenerbahce. FU Yu inscribed six wins in her six games, while the individual champion of the 2015 LIEBHERR ITTF European Champion Elizabeta SAMARA has disappointing 2-5 score so far at the 2015/16 ECLW.
After excellent play in the Group B UCAM Cartagena is clear favorite against Saint-Quentin. Spanish club lost the opening game against STROCK, playing without their two strongest players SHEN Yanfei and WANG Zhipei, then won three in a row to finish on the top. French team progressed to the quarter-finals thanks to two victories against Bursa Buyuksehir.
